Design decided 2026-09-04 (variant B, audit-retention-config-hint-mockup.html): the Retention row gains a quiet grey Config chip; the record box gains a footer bar in the Rotation-card pattern — hint text left, Audit guide ↗ right, linking the future-canonical swisscairn.ch/docs/audit#retention.

Two footer states: retention on → provenance ("Retention is set in the configuration file (audit.retainMonths) — applies after a restart."); retention 0 → the enabling direction ("To prune on a schedule, set audit.retainMonths…"). Four locales, no backend changes.

Also records the tier decision: retention stays config-only — the runtime UI can stop recording, but nothing reachable from an admin session may destroy recorded evidence.
