Every view is a real URL. /files/favorites, /files/shares/with-me|with-others|via-link, /files/spaces/projects, /files/trash/overview, /files/search/list/all?term=…, and the selected file lives in the URL as ?fileId=…. Cairn: six sidebar views have no route (#668).
"Copy permanent link" on every row, keyed by fileId, so it resolves for anyone with access regardless of their own path. Cairn's internal link doesn't resolve (#677).

File list

A batch action bar replaces the toolbar on selection: Download · Delete · Copy to · Move to · Add to favorites · "1 selected ×".
List footer summary: "3 items with 21 kB in total (3 files, 0 folders)", plus "1 folder including 1 hidden".
Row quick actions: an inline rename pencil next to the name, and Share + Copy permanent link icons always visible.
Status and Tags columns in the list, and relative times ("53 minutes ago") in the list with localised absolute times in the details panel ("Sep 23, 2026, 11:38 AM"). Cairn shows unlabelled UTC (#694).
Display options: "Show hidden files", "Show file extensions", items per page, and a tile-size slider (tiles-size), with thumbnails in tile view. Cairn tiles show type icons only.

Details panel

WebDAV path and WebDAV URL per file, with copy buttons (a per-user toggle, "Show WebDAV information in details view"). This helps users set up clients against a specific folder.
Owner shown by display name ("Dennis Ritchie"), not username.
Drills: Actions · Shares · Versions · Activities. The demo's Activities showed an honest "No activities". Cairn's Activity is always empty (#673). The share panel itself didn't finish loading on the demo during my visit, so no comparison of its role model.

Search

Header scope selector ("All files" ▾) and a routed results page with filters: Type, Last modified, "Title only" (so full-text is the default). Illustrated empty state: "No results found — Try refining the search term or filters".

Shares view

Three tabs: Shared with me / Shared with others / Shared via link, plus a Hidden shares toggle, Share type and Shared by filters, and "Search for shares". Illustrated empty state: "Nothing shared, yet — All received shares will show up here".

Spaces

Space header: name, description ("Excellent file management…"), image slot, a context menu, and a "2 members" button. The spaces list shows Remaining quota per space, Status (Enabled), a "Search for spaces" box, and "Learn about spaces" help.
Trash per space: "Trash overview — 3 trash bins in total (including 3 empty)".

Account (per user)

Profile: picture upload (max 10MB), first/last name, email, personal storage used, and group memberships listed.
Preferences: language (with a "Help to translate" link), theme, WebDAV-info toggle, and a notification matrix per event with In-App and Mail columns. Events: share received, removed or expired; added to, removed from or expired in a space; space disabled or deleted; "File rejected" (virus or policy). There is also an email digest interval (Instant/…).
GDPR: a self-service "Request a personal data export according to §20 GDPR".
App tokens (the equivalent of Cairn's app passwords) sit in the account area; Cairn has them in the avatar menu. There are also "Apps" and "Calendar" entries.

Chrome

An application switcher (grid icon), a "Share improvement ideas" feedback link in the header, and the version with update status in the sidebar footer ("OpenCloud 8.0.1 rolling · Up to date").
Illustrated empty states throughout, each with a one-line next step. Cairn's style guide already asks for "one honest sentence"; OpenCloud adds the next step.

Where Cairn is ahead (for balance, observed in the same pass)

An encryption and custody story in the admin (hybrid X25519 + ML-KEM, recovery identity, rotation workflow).
Legal holds and retention.
Peering (encrypted copies between instances).
Departed-owner handling.
OCM allow-list with per-server policy.
An inline hero preview in the pane (first page of PDFs and office documents).

One-time comparison from the #656 QA pass. I browsed demo.opencloud.eu (OpenCloud 8.0.1 rolling) as the demo user "dennis" in the session Nikola signed in, read-mostly: I created nothing, and I only selected and opened panes. These are **candidates** for Nikola to triage, not bugs. I list only what I actually observed on the demo; items I couldn't load are marked as such.
